October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast Cancer Awareness is represented by Pink.
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor (group of cancer cells) that starts in the cells of the breast. The tumor can grow into surrounding tissue or spread to distant areas of the body.
Of 8 women who live to be 85, one of them would be expected to develop breast cancer at some point during her life. Although the disease occurs almost entirely in women, men account for about 1% of all breast cancer cases.
There are roughly 232,340 new cases of breast cancer in the U.S. each year.
