March is Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month.
Multiple Myeloma Awareness is represented by Burgundy.
Multiple Myeloma is a cancer formed by plasma cells. Normally functioning plasma cells are an important part of the immune system. In Multiple Myeloma, plasma cells become cancerous and grow out of control, crowding out normal blood-forming cells.
It is estimated that there are roughly 22,350 new cases in the U.S. each year.
