Pancreatic cancer occurs when cancerous cells invade the tissues forming the pancreas. The pancreas is an organ found behind the stomach. The most common type of pancreatic cancer is adenocarcinoma, which arises within the exocrine component of the pancreas.
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S.
It is estimated that roughly 45,220 new cases are diagnosed in the U.S. each year.
